Having Your Say: Spotlight on Safety Social Series Begins.
At the start of May 2025, BCAS Biomedical (part of the Carbon 10 Group) kicked off the Spotlight on Safety Series on LinkedIn, shining a light on safety matters that affect healthcare providers every day.
This series provided an opportunity for BCAS Biomed followers, on LinkedIn, to have their say on where their own teams face the greatest safety challenges. Throughout this series, there has been a commitment to listening to the biomedical community and fostering discussion through interactive polls and post comments.
Question One – Poll
“Where does your team face the biggest challenge when it comes to safety?”
Respondents could choose from four key areas:
- Budget Limitations,
- Missed Servicing Schedules,
- Incomplete Asset Tracking,
- Compliance Uncertainty.
Within this poll, 100% of participants identified Budget Limitations as their greatest challenge, highlighting a clear financial pressure faced across our audiences.
Following on from that, the series acknowledged the hidden cost of inefficiencies in medical device management, highlighting that unnoticed delays in servicing or lack of asset visibility can have significant ripple effects. Often resulting in patients waiting longer, staff experiencing avoidable delays and finance teams absorbing preventable costs. This safety spotlight reinforced that preventive maintenance is more than a tick-box exercise, it’s a safeguard for both patients and budgets.
Question Two – Poll
“How often are your medical devices reviewed for safety and readiness?”
Once the poll had closed results reported a unanimous response of answers of ‘On a strict schedule.’ Other options presented included, ‘Only when issues arise,’ ‘Pre-audit,’ and ‘Unsure.’
Following on, the focus shifted to people behind the processes. Reliable medical equipment doesn’t maintain itself, it’s the work of dedicated clinical engineers who keep the systems running and makes sure the standards are upheld. Their efforts ensure devices are not only functional but safe and audit-ready.
Question Three – Poll
“Does your team have full visibility of all medical assets?”
This time around, there were some varied responses! When asked, “How clear is your view?” in relation to full visibility, respondents indicated there was:
The series closed by spotlighting financial impacts often going unseen. Reflecting that without structured asset management, organisations may face emergency repairs, unplanned equipment hires and redundant purchases. With each of these results ending in a costly outcome.
Thank you to the participants that took part in this exciting new series. The Spotlight on Safety series has drawn to a close however the important discussions still continue on the BCAS Biomed LinkedIn page, so follow us to be part of the ongoing conversations.
